With a special focus on adolescents and youth, the Hlayisa/Community-based HIV Services for Southern Region project used a comprehensive, dynamic approach to provide community-based HIV services. The project was funded by USAID through PEPFAR and implemented by N'weti in Gaza, Inhambane and Maputo provinces of Mozambique (2017-2021). It aimed to improve the HIV treatment, nutrition, general health outcomes, and livelihoods of people living with HIV–children, women and families.
This results brief highlights the achievements of Hlayisa in relation to creating an enabling environment for increased uptake of HIV testing services and improved utilization of community-based HIV services. This was achieved through meetings with community influencers, implementation of community dialogues, DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) activities, and by creating demand and providing referrals for health services. Other activities of the Hlayisa project (including on HIV testing, linkage to care and treatment, support for treatment adherence and retention in care) are reported in another results brief, the link of which can be found enclosed in this brief.
